If That Storm Was So Perfect, How Come It Killed Marky Mark?

1991 was a year filled with $1.12/gallon gasoline, Pearl Jam, Jeffery Dahmer’s arrest, and what has been coined as the “Perfect Storm” — even though it totally killed Marky Mark. 25 years ago, Hurricane Grace joined forces with a nor’easter that proceeded to decimate the east coast, cost $200 million in damage, and murder 21-year-old Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg, America’s newest, rising rap star. That doesn’t sound so perfect, now does it?

Marky was at the top of the world with a number one single “Good Vibrations” from the Funky Bunch’s game-changing rap album, Music for the People, one that proved to be a sweet, honest, and groundbreaking feast for the ears. But then Mark got murdered by a storm that used to be a female hurricane.

This so-called “perfect” storm resulted from two already-huge storms, that part makes sense. But how could anyone call it “perfect” when, as the world knows, the storm formerly known as Grace had brutally taken Marky Mark away from us six years before he had a shot at joining the 27 club?

Nothing that kills innocents should be labeled as such, especially God-fearing men like Marky who have never hurt anyone. It’s almost unbelievable that that everyone has let this name slide all these years. And the saddest thing about this is that it’s probably too late to change at this point. But at least the world can take solace in the fact that on October 28, 1991, Heaven gained another Angel.
